I started at the original box. Although I was already a member of another gym, boredom,
monotony and no changes physically had taken place. Not blaming my old gym- it became my mindset. All the buzz surrounded Crossfit and I wanted to know more – was it all hype, was it for real, could I even do it??
Like most, I was Intimidated, even being someone already in a workout regimen. Walking in the first day in my fancy workout clothes, I was scared, challenged, sore, wounded but each day brought on a keen sense of accomplishment and reward. Can you honestly imagine working out with no machines(except a rower), no mirrors, no air conditioning, no heat??? Well, welcome to Crossfit, goodbye to fancy workout clothes and welcome to the likes of tire flips, burpees, box jumps, clean and jerks.
I actually did both my gym and the box for about a year and then lost all interest in my old gym. The workouts of the day or as we lovingly call them,WODs, are intense, never the same and challenging. I can say that I am in the best physical and mental shape I have ever been in in my adult life. I can also proudly proclaim I weigh less than I did when I got married and when I was in College. My diet combined with my workouts have made all the difference in the world. Working out at Crossfit makes you want to have that nutritional balance.
The friendships at the box that have been forged have come as a result of pushing each other, the spirit of competition and supporting one another in each and every WOD. No one is left alone to complete a workout.
I am going to be 52 this January. Nothing is more important to me than my children and I want to be here for a long time. Crossfit will help me to obtain that goal and more and I plan to do it as long as I am able.
Talk to any Crossfit member. They will gripe, complain and moan about the workouts but not one of them will tell you they plan to quit anytime soon. Do it and I promise you, your gym now will be old news- I know mine is! 3-2-1 GO Get you some!!!
